FourthChild Cafe Restaurant – Ipswich

Its been a while since we’ve enjoyed an early morning Sunday drive, culminating in an interesting new location. Our recent trip to FourthChild Cafe was certainly worth the visit to Ipswich.

With a small number of tables outside, the entry to the venue provides a feeling of room to spare, due to the massive roof void, plus a huge wall of wonderful graffiti to add some simply awesome splashes of colour.

Lovely wooden tables provided plenty of room for all. Staff here were friendly and professional, whilst willing to assist in anyway.

We perused the menu before coming to our choices. Hubbys choice today was to be the Savoury Mince

Interesting presentation, the mince resting under the two fried eggs. I’m told this dish was most enjoyable with the flavours throughout balancing the reasonably plain mince. In saying that, Hubby does harbour a preference for hot and spicy whilst I’m limited to mild. However this is only a personal preference and he still highly recommended this dish.

This awesome looking dish below was the truffled mushrooms with a side of chorizo. Now not only did this present well, there was nothing left on the plate after the delicious meal was consumed.

Opting for the Vege Stack, I was interested to see how the combination of flavours worked.

Zucchini, mushrooms and pumpkin topped with a superb haloumi cheese. All married together with chickpeas, sweet plato and a surprising pop of juicy warmth from the kasundi. One thing I enjoyed here, was the kasundi, a pickle or relish with Indian origins, was not overdone. To be honest, for me it was perfect. I was able to mix the relish through the breakfast and even out the spice. Overall, a most enjoyable meal.

Eggs Benedict is a popular breakfast menu choice and this one above certainly looked delicious!

Ok, so we now have a new sort of tradition when enjoying Sunday brekky, yes we finish with a dessert style breakfast. At Fourthchild, the menu presented to us, contained not only Red Velvet Pancakes, but also an interesting sounding mix of Peach Melba Creme Brûlée French toast. Now that makes the decision a little difficult so lets just go with both.

No explanation required here! Definitely able to taste the red velvet flavoured pancakes the crisp peppermint was a clever mix to the dish.

Now this, oh yes, most decadent of breakfasts, was quite simply outstanding. With a surprise crunch from the pieces of praline, piercing the softness of the brûlée and juicy peaches, we did declare this one the favourite.

We could see how this venue would be intriguing at any time of the day. The display of tempting cakes was enough to make you want to stop by, without the delights of the menu. Check them out, definitely worth a visit!

Novotel Surfers Paradise

Treated to a viewing of the refurbished rooms at Novotel Surfers Paradise this week was quite an unexpected bonus. Attending this Travel Massive meet was most definitely worth the return trip from Brisbane to the very heart of Surfers Paradise.

Now sporting a wonderful peaceful ambiance the rooms are quite inviting. Couple this with the balcony off each room giving you simply stunning views across the Gold Coast, and you have a winning combination.

A new rooftop area is now available for function hire. Very spacious, kitted out with comfortable, inviting furniture, this certainly is a rooftop space worth considering if you’re requiring a venue.

Views upwards are quite impressive too!

Staff were all friendly and more than happy to assist in any way possible. The lobby area can be quite busy at times with tour groups coming in and out but it doesn’t matter as there is such a huge amount of space, along with a bar/cafe, information & tour booking desk as well as reception. An onsite restaurant is up on level one plus laundry, games room, gym etc near the pool and rooftop areas.

Centrally located, from this hotel it is a mere short stroll to the beach as well as a multitude of attractions, leave the car and enjoy a walk.

Consider this hotel if you’re looking for accommodation, those newly refurbished rooms really do look very inviting!

Childers Oasis Motel

One thing I love, is looking down that alleyway, just to see what you can find. To stumble across the intriguing Childers Oasis Motel for a Sunday breakfast, was quite a find.

Nestled behind the well known Palace Hotel on Childers Main Street, a whole new world opens . I had hoped to visit the backpackers memorial as this is a monument to an extremely sad part of Queensland’s history. Something that remains in everyone’s minds. Unfortunately our timing was out and this visit we were unable to pay our respects to the young life’s lost. The work that has gone into the permanency of remembering that tragic time is a big part of Childers. And to those who have done so, hats off, not an easy thing to do.

This view, caught my eye. After convincing hubby we should check this out, it was off down to explore. Firstly, there is a chandelier in the garden on the left. Such an eclectic mix of culture and time exist at the end of this laneway.

Every setting is different. So, choose your mood! We chose outside outside, quiet and a pleasant morning. The menu is a basic motel menu, but, we had no issue with that as that was all we were seeking,

Hubby loved his Chai latte. Apparently one of the best he has ever had.

Now this to me is a basic yet filling breakfast, Nothing was wrong here it was perfect. Staff, who we assumed as being the establishment owners were very friendly, helpful and made sure everything was to our taste.

There is a motel here, but we were staying elsewhere, however, if you are travelling North, dont miss stopping in Childers. This town is large part of Queensland history. Who knows what you will find down that alleyway.
